A Full Scottish Breakfast at Chilli Vanilla

Chilli Vanilla's full Scottish breakfast with home-made baked beans. It's going to be a good day!

Chilli Vanilla is not new in town, but – for a variety of reasons – I’ve never actually sat down there for a meal, until just last week.

Last Saturday FoodieBah and I headed on over there to check out that Full Scottish Breakfast people have been talking about.Chilli Vanilla's full Scottish breakfast with home-made baked beans. It's going to be a good day!Not for the unbrave-of-heart, the Full Scottish Breakfast comes on a big plate for a reason.

“Traditional”, says one of the owners in the business, Shirley, “except for the greens.”

The plate is loaded with 2 large, square sausages, a generous helping of potato scones, brazed tomatoes, a dollop of home-made baked beans and a sunny-side up egg on fresh slices of home-made bread.

And those foreign-to-the-Scottish-palate greens, of course.

“I saw the breakfast over there and knew I wanted to serve it,” says Shirley who has a strong bond with the Kilt Country, from where she recently returned after a holiday.

“The greens are an improvisation. That’s just how we do it here.”

Flavourful and tasty, the Big Scottish Breakfast is good eating, and if this happens to be your choice for brunch, like it was mine, forget about lunch.  Chances are you won’t eat again until dinner.

I could hardly move after devouring not just the Full Scottish Breakfast, but also more than half of the Spicy Duck Tortilla, which FoodieBah ordered, just to try.

The soothing latte that Shirley conjured up helped with the digestion and I only half stumbled out of there 2 hours after sitting down.

Chilli Vanilla’s Full Scottish Breakfast is breakfast by name only. It’s available all day. Check out Chilli Vanilla’s opening hours and go for breakfast. Or lunch. Or Dinner.
