J Residence, the nearest accommodation to Kinabalu Park apart from those inside, is literally a hidden gem.
If it wasn’t for the big J on the signboard next to the road, you would never know it was there.
A steep driveway, in a gap between the trees, leads you over the side of the road down to a level area where J Residence’s accommodation units are nestled in the hillside. It overlooks the rolling hills of the Bundu Tuhan farming community in the valley below.
Apart from J Residence being just 300m from the Kinabalu Park entrance, and therefore an attractive, affordable alternative to the rather pricey accommodation of the park, J Residence has its own appeal.
The breathtaking view from a lush, tranquil setting, combined with the cold weather that’s often experienced here on the slopes of Mt. Kinabalu, make J Residence a soothing escape from the heat and city-noise of Kota Kinabalu and the surrounding flat lands.
J Residence is rather exclusive, with only 10 basic, but comfortable and well-appointed rooms on the property.
Each room features a LCD TV with a DVD player and hot showers in unique bathrooms. Some of the bathrooms face a steep hill, and the top edge of the wall is open and partly covered with glass, allowing in a fresh blast of cold mountain air.
Dotted along the clusters of accommodation there are common areas for get-togethers, as well as facilities for BBQs, including sinks for basic food preparation.
J Residence otherwise doesn’t provide any meal services or food, but there are 2 restaurants nearby that are within walking distance.
Literally just before the Kinabalu Park entrance as you’re driving from Kota Kinabalu, J Residence is about a 2 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu and less than 30 minutes from Kundasang Town. The Receiption Desk is open from 8am – 9pm daily and the accommodations are bookable throughout the year.
