Description
The nano jungle trek is a short path that leads from the edge of Kota Kinabalu city up towards the Signal Hill observation deck.
If you cross the road towards Signal Hill from behind Jesselton Hotel in Gaya Street, you will find a staircase, the start of the nano jungle trek, right next to the Garden Hotel.
The nano jungle trek is virtually in the city and offers a leisurely stroll that takes barely 7 minutes, but cuts through proper tropical rainforest. Considering its location, this little swathe of Borneo jungle has many surprises in store for nature lovers.
First off you’ll notice the humidty is higher amongst the trees than immediately outside the patch of forest, which is home to a variety of bugs take make their precense known loud and clear, especially in the heat of the day. A fair amount of birds can also be spotted in the branches of the lush trees, and being still for a while might even reveal a shrew or two.
Small troops of macaques are not an uncommon sight along the road leading up Signal Hill, and you might even be lucky enough to spot a few cheeky monkeys on your nano jungle trek.
If you’re not doing any other jungle trekking while you’re in Kota Kinabalu or Sabah, then the nano jungle trek in the city is the perfect dose of jungle fun. It’s also the shortest path from the city to the Signal Hill Observation Platform.
