Description
The Tip of Borneo is the most northern tip of the island of Borneo and the geographic point where the South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea.
It’s local name, Simpang Mengayau, means lingering junctions due to the confluence of the two seas.
It’s about 170km from Kota Kinabalu and will take roughly 3 – 4 hours to drive, depending on road, weather and traffic conditions.
It’s a great day trip, or an even better overnighter, with points of interest on the way there and, of course, plenty of beautiful nature and local culture to enjoy at the Tip of Borneo itself, or in the nearby town of Kudat.
It’s also a spectacular venue from where to enjoy the sunrise or a moonlight night. A campground and various accommodation options can be found within 2km of the Tip of Borneo.
The Tip of Borneo is also the venue of the annual Sunset Music Fest at the Tip of Borneo which takes place around June every year.
A taxi can be hired for the day, but might be quite expensive. Hiring a car for the day is an excellent option, as it will give you the flexibility to stop and go as you please. It’s fairly straight forward getting to the Tip of Borneo and is suitable for a normal vehicle.
