Whenever you walk down Kota Kinabalu’s The Waterfront’s promenade, if every other establishment is quiet, chances are there will be life at The Loft.

Popular with a regular crowd of locals and tourists drawn in the by the atmosphere, The Loft is one of those places where you can simply take a load off. There’s friendly people to meet and chat to if you’re feeling social, or the view and people watching to loose yourself in if you’re not.v

Another notable aspect of The Loft is their extensive drinks menu. Fresh on tap is the ever popular Tiger pint and Guinness, and the equally popular more recent edition of Kilkenny cream ale.

Bottled in the fridge awaits no less than 13 other popular international beers including Hoegaarden, Corona and Victoria Bitter.

Monday’s Tiger & Guinness Draught Happy hour from 15:00 – midnight and Tuesday’s Beer Buffet (RM55 for all you can drink between 18:30 – 22:00, check at The Loft for T&Cs) are aimed especially at beer fans.

Although it might seem as if beer lovers get a lot of love at The Loft, wine lovers need not feel left out as there is, literally, plenty to go around.

From the wine list you can choose your favourite from around 20 different white and red wines. The house Chardonnay and Shiraz are available by the glass, whilst the rest are available by the bottle, all at below RM99 save for two from the Houghton estate at RM128 & RM130 respectively.

If neither wine nor beer suits your pallet, then certainly a cocktail, shooter or a spirit will calm your shaking hands. In all three categories The Loft can meet your needs.

Just ask the experienced bar staff to mix your favourite, or be daring and try a Loftail, like the Borneo Ice Tea which contains, amongst other things, draught beer!

Earth Hour was first held in Sydney last year to make a bold statement about Earth’s fast deteriorating environment. The event involved more than 2.2 million people and 2,100 business. It was so far reaching that even Sydney’s most famous landmarks, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney’s Opera House, also switched off their lights.

And although the effort involved was tiny, simply turning off the lights for one hour between 8pm and 9pm, the impact was huge. It was calculated that if that small effort could be sustained every day for a year, it would reduce carbon-monoxide emissions equal to removing 49,000 cars from our roads for a year.

This year the event went global and The Loft, an English Pub in the Waterfront, is KK’s pioneer. Packed to the brim with no lights shining, The Loft hosted acoustic guitar players, a quiz and an awareness campaign by WWF members.

Not only did the event bring the plight of the environment to the fore through curiosity raised by the lack of lights and the presence of a multitude of candles, but the sheer volume of the crowd made many a passer-by stop and wonder what it was all about.

Earth Hour illustrates that if everyday, every one of us just does something small, together we can make a huge difference to our environment. What did you do today to preserve our planet for tomorrow?

If the effect of that first Earth Hour could be sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,000 plus cars of the road for a year. This year, Earth Hour is global.

In support of our environment, to show they care and to mark Eart Hour, for an hour this Saturday, March 29 between 8pm and 9pm, there will be no electricity at The Loft in the Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu.

What there will be plenty off is spirit. The ladies are also planning a quiz with prizes, so make sure you know the facts about your environment and global warming. For entertainment, there will be live acoustic music.
