This is page 4 of a 4 page review [other pages: 1, 2, 3]
We wind up our ultimate guide to the donuts menu of Big Apple Donuts & Coffee in Kota Kinabalu with a look at the last 4 donuts on the menu, plus a surprise addition we spotted recently, which is not featured on the standard menu yet.
Glacier
At first glance this looks like a standard issue donut. One donut, glaze it; Homer would be proud. However, amongst the veritable mine field of very sweet donuts, Glacier stands on its own as light and extremely easy to eat donut. It’s so good, in fact, that you can almost convince yourself that it’s healthy. The ideal donut to have with a cup of coffee or tea.
Californian Almond
This is the only donut on the entire Big Apple Donuts menu, which has constantly and annoyingly remained unavailable to try. Either they produce precious little of this gem of a donut, or it’s simply so popular that the moment they come of the production line, they are snapped up by eager punters standing in the queue, salivating in anticipation of it’s arrival. The review will be updated the moment we manage to snare this rare specimen.
Moonraker
Oddly derived names aside, Moonraker is one of our test panel’s favourite donuts. Smothered in chocolate and encrusted with Coco Pops, Big Apple Donuts have somehow managed to keep the Coco Pops crunchy, which results in delightfully chewy experience as you munch the crispy, chocolate donut. The delicate chocolate flavour of the Coco Pops provide the crunch, whilst the chocolate coating provides the flavour and together they produce a positively delicious donut.
Chococinno
Death by coffee-flavoured chocolate. This is likely the richest donut in the Big Apple Donuts line-up. A solid donut, meaning no hole in the centre, it’s smothered in a creamy, sweet chocolate on the outside and is stuffed with a creamy mixture of very rich, coffee-and-chocolate flavoured cream in the centre. Although it is still a very delicious donut, the sabahbah.com test panel were glad they could share one, but nevertheless felt their waste-lines increase by a few centimetres each.
Blue Lagoon
Named for it’s flavour, not it’s colour, Blue Lagoon is a fairly new addition to Big Apple Donuts’ line-up, as it doesn’t appear on the menu board yet. A sweet tasting donut, which has a distinct taste of artificial blue berry flavour to it, it should appeal to people who also like Cadbury’s blue-berry chocolate. Not entirely unpalatable, Blue Lagoon appears to be popular, as it’s tray has been either empty or near empty on a few occasions we happened to pass Big Apple Donuts.
And that wraps up sabahbah.com’s ultimate guide to the donuts on the menu of Big Apple Donuts. We endeavour to keep this guide up to date with any new donut developments at Big Apple Donuts and Coffee in KK, or until they get their own website up and running, which ever comes first.
