Al Fresco is a Mediterranean restaurant in Kota Kinabalu and one of 14 food and beverage outlets located at Sutera Harbour Resort. The restaurant provides, as the name suggests, open air and outside seating, which, with it’s sea-side location, lends itself to special and romantic occasions.

Although Al Fresco at Sutera Harbour Resort is open from 11am till late daily, the best time to enjoy Al Fresco’s ambiance is undoubtedly during sunset. Perched on the edge of the South China Sea, most of the seats at Al Fresco have unrestricted views of the islands in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, the location of Sabah’s legendary sunsets.

Both the lunch menu and the dinner menu feature a variety of pasta and seafood dishes, as well as an extensive menu of pizzas with an option to create your own, customised pizza. With Al Fresco’s wood-fired pizza over, you are ensured of an authentic, wood-fired oven taste, which ads that little something extra to the taste of your pizza, unmistakable to those who have experienced it before.

Happy Hour Sundowners

Al Fresco at Sutera Harbour Resort has a Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm daily. A range of cocktails, including Singapore Sling and Margarita features on the two-for-one Happy Hour menu. Located opposite Wisma Merdeka is the famous Ang’s Hotel, and under it’s wing is Fatt Kee Coffee Shop, but known all around as Ang’s Hotel Restaurant.

Likely open throughout the day, this restaurant is a bustling hub of activity and is not only popular, but famous for a selection of key menu items and is a good place from where to start acquiring your Chinese food experiences in Kota Kinabalu.

Amongst the Chinese dishes that Ang’s Hotel Restaurant is known and loved for is the Oyster-sauce Chicken Wings, Sizzling Japanese Tofu, Minute Pork Steaks and any of their green veggies, prepared the way on Ang’s Hotel Restaurant can.

As a traveler, you might be hindered by the fact that the menu written on the wall-boards are in Chinese only, but have no fear, the staff taking your orders can speak English and, upon request, will even produce a English /Chinese menu for your perusal.

But take our word for it, the Tiny but Fiesty Lady who’ll likely take your oder knows her stuff, so do ask her to recommend something from the menu for you.

Ang’s Hotel Restaurant, although still very economical otherwise, provides the best value for money for groups of four to six people.
