The Loft in KK’s Waterfront - Host venue to KK’s first Earth HourEarth Hour, organised by Becky and Helle, was hosted by The Loft in Kota Kinabalu’s Waterfront and was the venue for KK’s first ever event of such kind.

Earth Hour was first held in Sydney last year to make a bold statement about Earth’s fast deteriorating environment. The event involved more than 2.2 million people and 2,100 business. It was so far reaching that even Sydney’s most famous landmarks, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney’s Opera House, also switched off their lights.

Roman Candle Simon along with organisers Helle in the middle and Becky on the right. And although the effort involved was tiny, simply turning off the lights for one hour between 8pm and 9pm, the impact was huge. It was calculated that if that small effort could be sustained every day for a year, it would reduce carbon-monoxide emissions equal to removing 49,000 cars from our roads for a year.

This year the event went global and The Loft, an English Pub in the Waterfront, is KK’s pioneer. Packed to the brim with no lights shining, The Loft hosted acoustic guitar players, a quiz and an awareness campaign by WWF members.

Acoustic sounds filled the darkned Loft in KK’s WaterfrontNot only did the event bring the plight of the environment to the fore through curiosity raised by the lack of lights and the presence of a multitude of candles, but the sheer volume of the crowd made many a passer-by stop and wonder what it was all about.

Earth Hour illustrates that if everyday, every one of us just does something small, together we can make a huge difference to our environment. What did you do today to preserve our planet for tomorrow?

Earth Hour at The Loft

In: The Loft

Earth Hour was first observed in Sydney in 2007 when 2.2 million people participated, including 2,100 business. On March 31, between 8pm and 9pm the lights went out all over Sydney.

If the effect of that first Earth Hour could be sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,000 plus cars of the road for a year. This year, Earth Hour is global.

The Loft in KK is the venue for an Earth Hour event hosted by Becky and Helle. The event is open to all who wants to make a statement about the state of our planet and the impact that climate change has on all of us.

In support of our environment, to show they care and to mark Eart Hour, for an hour this Saturday, March 29 between 8pm and 9pm, there will be no electricity at The Loft in the Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu.

What there will be plenty off is spirit. The ladies are also planning a quiz with prizes, so make sure you know the facts about your environment and global warming. For entertainment, there will be live acoustic music.

The event is open to all, so do join Earth Hour at The Loft, Waterfront, KK.

KK Adventure Park is Kota Kinabalu & Sabah’s action packed activity destination.

Located a mere 24 km from the town centre, about 35 minutes by car, the park is easily accessible. A shuttle bus services all major hotels in the city and provides a convenient way for tourists to visit the park.

Run by Bryan Wade, a 5 times British Motorcross Champion, you know safety is a priority, which shows in the full range of safety kit available to all participants at KK Adventure Park.

The park is located next to the beach and is surrounded by Sabah jungle, which lends itself to many exciting and entertaining activities, briefly outlined below.

Quad-bikes and beach buggies ready for actionQuad Bikes

Easy to handle quad-bikes are at the ready to be enjoyed on either the 2km jungle track or on the stretch of beach fronting KK Adventure Park. Either way, prepare for speed with a bit of mud for effect and rough terrain to make the quad-bike earn it’s keep and for your to prove your mettle.

Beach Buggies

Small but sturdy, the beach buggies cater for two. Capable of reasonable speed, the proximity to the ground makes for a thrilling ride. The buggie is equipped with bucket seats and secure safety belts to ensure you stay in place while you zoom across the beach.

On the Bungee Trampolines there is no fear of fallingBungee Trampolines

Said to be the only Bungee Trampolines in Sabah, these contraptions free you from the constraints of gravity. Strap in and bounce your way to sky while you’re propelled by the bungee cords. Don’t be afraid to try a few tricks or somersaults as the bungee cords will keep you on track.

High Rope ChallengesHigh Rope Challenge

If you’re afraid of heights… then it’s all the more reason to try the High Rope Challenges! Suspended above the ground by a mere 25-feet (a little more than 7.5m), 7 challenges await you to take up the challenge to complete them; if you like a taste of adrenaline that is.

Kayaks

One of the more sedate activities at the park, you can paddle towards the Kawang River and head up stream to discover some of Sabah’s wildlife along the river banks.

The 3-walled Climbing Wall at KK Adventure ParkClimbing Wall

Kota Kinabalu’s only publicly accessible climbing wall, it towers 30 feet (approximately 9 meters) above KK Adventure Park. The wall consists of 3 faces, providing a challenge to climbers trying it out for the first time and those who know their way around a wall already.

Low Ropes Course

For little ones, or perhaps those with not enough courage for the high ropes, a lower obstacle course provides the thrill and excitement in a more contained environment.

Watch a little dot become a person real fast on the Flying FoxFlying Fox

Once you’ve scampered to the top of a 40 foot (about 12 meters) tower the zip-line to the bottom points the way you’re heading. You are then securely strapped into a harness before you zoom down the 480 foot (146 meters) cable at a blistering pace.

Giant Chess | Miniature Golf | Ken’s Hidden Treasures

For younger participants or those not too keen on over dosing on adrenaline, a range of more sedate activities will provide entertainment. Ken’s Hidden Treasures is a sandbox filled with prizes, which needs to be unearthed in a limited time. Or try your hand at the Miniature Golf where the greens are the rough. Or take it easy with a game of Giant Chess.

KK Adventure Park caters to groups, birthday parties, team building and corporate events and can even accommodate camping. Contact KK Adventure Park for more information.
