The running track at Likas Sports Complex is just one of the popular facilities frequently used by the active people of Kota Kinabalu.
Roughly 1km in length, the track encircles a man-made lake, the shores of which are peppered with lush, green trees and shrubbery, making it a green oasis sufficiently removed from KK’s traffic and noise.
Especially popular at dusk, after the heat of the day, Kota Kinabalu’s work force is often busy walking or running off a day at the office. The track is popular with serious joggers, the health concious and families keeping fit and healthy.
Along the running track there are several outdoor exercise stations, allowing for a good stretch, triceps dips, monkey bars and horisontal bars for pull-ups. Climbing frames and swings provide distraction for kids of all ages and a colourful playground for them to spend some energy in a fun-filled way.
The Likas Sports Complex is located about 5 minutes out of town towards the Floating Mosque and is near the Sabah Trade Centre, and is about the same distance from Damai. The surrounding area is serviced by buses, although the Likas Sport Complex itself is most easily accessed by car or taxi.
Thanks to lighting around the track and a safe environment, a brisk walk or a jog is possible until long after dark.
Likas Sports Complex is located about 10 minutes from the city centre and is Sabah and Kota Kinabalu’s most comprehensive sporting venue.
Kota Kinabalu’s sprawling hub of sport and recreational activities, the Likas Sports Complex houses various sport diciplines, and is also a regular venue for large events, such as the annual Chinese New Year and Rahmadan open houses.

The sports complex, famous as the home for various of Sabah’s sporting associations including the football team, Sabah Rhinos, is in close proximity to the Sabah Trade Centre and a nearby driving range.
The Place is a well known restaurant and watering hole in Kota Kinabalu, popular for late night European football games and early morning rugby games. It’s one of few places in KK that serves beer 24 hours a day.
Situated in the Api Api Centre, The Place faces towards the ocean and is directly behind the Marina Court. A sports bar cum pub come diner, it serves a generous selection of food and beverage.
Specialising in a few local dishes, Chinese food, western food and food from the Philippines, The Place is popular amongst a diverse clientèle who come there for food that’s as wholesome as a home-cooked meal.
Broadcasting popular sporting events any time of the day and beer on tap the same, The Place attracts fans of various games. A pool table keeps the punters busy and a open-fronted bar with outside seating gives The Place a comfortable and informal feel.

DJ Bryan Burger
Breaking the ice at Blue Note as the next session of Generation Y commenced on March 1st, was DJ Bryan Burger, known for tribal inspired grooves built around funky electro baselines. Said to induce orgasmic crescendos with the spin of his discs, DJ Bryan Burger has played alongside international legends such as John Digweed, Paul Van Dyke, Circulation and other international DJs.
DJ Shazz
From a childhood on the streets of New York City, DJ Shazz brings true house to Blue Note on March 8. With solo experiences at the Sub Club in Glasgow, Que Club in Birmingham and Lovezoo at The Lost Weekend under his belt, DJ Shazz is loyal to house music in it’s pure form, eliciting a rhythm characterized by intensity and soulful inspirational vibes.
DJ Leonard T
Bringing a wealth of dance music knowledge to Blue Note on 15 March, DJ Leonard T promises KK clubbers the benefit of sampling the spectrum of his astounding repertoire ranging from credible to commercial. With Berlin’s Love Parade still ringing in his ears, DJ Leonard is fired up and ready to bring his international experience to the local club scene and will give KK clubbers something to talk about.
DJ Nikki
Hot on talent and looks, international DJ Nikki is set to thump the party at Blue Note on 22 March. Living proof that a female DJ can also get recognition away from the dance floor, DJ Nikki’s passion for dance music is is also her career. Crowned Heineken Music presents Juice DJ Quest champion in 2007, DJ Nikki was the competition’s first female winner yet and brings girl power to the dance floor.
DJ Anatta
On 29 March Generation Y wraps up when DJ Anatta handles decs at Blue Note for the grand finale. A breakthrough female DJ, Anatta shot to fame in 2004 when she pipped nine male opponents in DJ competition on the local scene. In 2005 DJ Anatta became the first female DJ to control the decs on Red FM’s Wicked Session, one of the most popular local radio shows.
Looking forward to April, Blue Note, as Kota Kinabalu’s top purveyor of soulful grooves, pledges to continue bringing more international DJs to the local scene. Happy days for KK clubbers.
