Action, adventure, nature and culture, all off this is to be experienced in Sabah’s awesome Kiulu 4M Challenge.
The 4M Challenge is an annual extreme sports event, but this being Sabah don’t expect snow-ramps, skateboards or bmx. Instead the 4M Challenge draws from local sports, named in Kadazandusun they are Manangkus (running), Mamangkar (bamboo rafting), Manampatau (paddling on a bamboo pole) and Mamarampanau (walking on bamboo stilts), hence the 4 M’s.
The 4M Challenge takes place in picturesque Kiulu near Tuaran about 60km east of Kota Kinabalu, fed by the Kiulu River, which famous at any other time of the year as one of Sabah’s prime white water rafting spots.
If you feel like joining the action instead of just being a spectator, there are several categories for you to choose from. The Women’s Open, Junior Open, X-Treme, 5M Open, Mixed Double Open, 5M Open and 2 special categories for the media and corporate / government sectors respectively.
The cut-off date for the 12th Kiulu 4M Challenge registration is 27 November 09.
Additional Info Registration fees consist of Entry Fees plus Equipment Fees, which are non-refundable. If you can provide your own equipment according to the organiser’s specification, the Equipment Fees will be waived.
Entry Fees
- Single – Juniors (15 years and younger), RM 15;
- Single – Women (16 years and above), RM 30;
- Single – Xtreme 5M Men (21 years and above), RM 70;
- Team – Mixed Open (1 man + 1 woman), RM 60;
- Team – 5M Open (2 men, 2 women or mixed), RM 80;
- Team – Press / Media (2 men, 2 women, or mixed), RM 60;
- Team – Corporate / Government (3 per team, 2 men + 1 woman, or 2 women + 1 man), RM90;
Equipment Fees (non refundable)
- Single – Juniors, RM30
- Single – Women & Xtreme 5M Men, RM35
- Team – Mixed, 5M Open, Press / Media, RM40
- Team – Corporate / Government, RM50
General Rules- Registration close 27 November 2009 – the organisers must receive your payment and entry form before then. The payment consists of entry fee and payment for the bamboo equipment, none of which are refundable;
- You must be able to swim and be physically fit, but life jackets are required;
- If you participate in the 5M categories you will be required to build your bamboo raft using materials provided. If you are assisted by any other party, you will be disqualified.
- You may use your own raft, tampatau, rampanau and life jackets if it’s according to organiser’s spec;

Directions Public Transport:- From Wawasan Bus Terminal (KK) to Tamparuli @ about RM5 per person (60 – 90 mins);
- From Tamparuli to Kiulu, Malangang @ about RM2 per person (30 mins);
