Borneo Surf Festival, organised by Sabah Surfing Association, returns to Nexus Resort Karambunai in Tuaran, outside Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Promosing an event even bigger and better than last year, Borneo Surf Festival has lined up Rip Curl, Oakley and official board partners, Atlas, as sponsors for the this event, which some may find surprising in this part of the world.
A new addition to the Borneo Surf Festival is the Tamu Patai, or the Beach Bazaar, which will showcase local handicaft and other products representing Sabah.
The Borneo Surf Festival hopes to attract more than 2,000 festival goers and in-house guests from the Nexus Resort, doubling the attendance of pervious festivals.
Surfing in Sabah, Borneo
Borneo Surf Festival also includes a surfing competition with 56 contestants taking part in 3 categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Under 16 Open, which hopes to see the best surfers from west Malaysia, Labuan, Sarawak and Brunei.
In addition to the competition and market planned for the Borneo Surf Festival, there will also be surf clinics, a free surf movie screening and plenty of other funfilled activities that the whole family can enjoy.
One of the Sabah Surfing Association’s aims is to spread awareness of the dangers of rip current, and a Rip Current Awareness Program will also feature at this year’s Borneo Surf Festival.
