Description
Malaysia Day commemorates 16 September 1963, the date on which all the states of Malaysia – Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya – united to become the country Malaysia.
A national public holiday, Malaysia Day is observed throughout Malaysia.
It is still, however, overshadowed by National Day (previously Merdeka Day), which observes 31 August 1957, the day on which the states of Malaya (today west Malaysia) gained independence from British rule.
