If you’re wondering how to get to 1Borneo, well here’s a few options.

By Car or Taxi

Yes, all roads lead to 1 Borneo, but the quickest way when you find yourself in the city centre is to head along Jalan Pantai, direction Likas.

The moment you hit the fringes of the city and the start of Likas Bay, you’ll see the first 1Borneo signboard telling you that 1Borneo is only 7kms away.

Following this road will take you past landmarks such as the Sabah Trade Building, the Floating Mosque, the Tun Mustapha Building (large cylindrical building that houses Atmosphere Restaurant & Bar), University Malaysia Sabah.  Depending on traffic, you will reach the largest lifestyle hyper mall in East Malaysia, 1 Borneo, about 20 – 30 minutes later.

Cars are easy and convenient, but traffic is no fun.The easiest way to park will be the off-ramp just before the property. But while they’re working on this, it’s best to go all the way to the other end of the property and up the ramp to the 2nd and 3rd floor.

There you will find ample parking, which is easy to navigate and will put you at an entrance in the heart of the mall.

A taxi, and this is unverified, should cost in the region of RM 10 – RM 15 from the city centre.  With a maximum capacity of 4 people, this is a fast and inexpensive option.

Of course, driving yourself does have it’s drawbacks, even more so on the days that 1 Borneo will be crawling with people (read weekends and holidays).

1Borneo Shuttle Bus

The shiny new air-conditioned 1Borneo Shuttle Bus. To entice shoppers to 1Borneo, a free shuttlebus runs a set schedule on a fixed route between major points in Kota Kinabalu and 1Borneo.

Hotel guests of Promenade Hotel, Sutera Harbour Resort and Shang-ri La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa will be delighted to learn that these 3 hotels are pick-up points for shuttles going to 1Borneo, ensuring that visitors to KK can easily reach this new development.

The 1Borneo Bus Schedule - Current as of September 08The 1 Borneo Shuttle Buses depart regularly from the designated points.  The schedule seems to be adapted every so often, so best be sure to double check any schedule that you plan to rely on.

The 1Borneo Bus Schedule to the right seems to be a fairly recent one (Sep 08), so should be accurate, for this month at least.

The 1 Borneo Shuttle Buses are air-conditioned and, for the time being, complimentary.

Very Alternative Transport

Helicopter

The 1Borneo Helicopter. This particular model can sit a total of 4 people, including the pilot. If driving by road in bus, car or taxi is just not your style, then 1 Borneo as an option for you.

A helipad, located on the near end of the 1 Borneo property as you approach from Kota Kinabalu, accommodates the 1 Borneo helicopter for the decerning shopper or busy hotel guest wanting to avoid traffic alltogether.

Although helipads in Kota Kinabalu are few in numbers, you will be able to transfer conveniently from either the Kota Kinabalu International Airport or Sutera Harbour Resort, straight to 1 Borneo is one easy flight from helipads located there.

Hovercraft

Another first for East Malaysia and certainly something very unique in the world, is 1Borneo’s ambition to provide hovercraft transfer from the city centre and the airport.

A 30-odd seater hovercraft is on order, reportedly sourced from Australia, and will shortly be plying the route between the KKIA, KK city centre and 1 Borneo.

In the meantime, the river behind the complex is being widened to accommodate this mode of transport.  No word on the cost of this particular transfer has been picked up as yet.

So whether you choose road, air, water or a combition of any, you have plenty of choices of how to get to 1 Borneo.

hmmm – on my timetable (I am going this weekend), it also shows Likas Square on the timetable:

    http://www.tunehotels.com/shuttle-bus-schedule-1borneo-kk.htm

    - but I don’t see it mentioned or on the poster-image here??? Anyone know if Likas Square is a pickup/drop-off option? otherwise, from the Ferry Terminal, it is looking like Warisan Square.

Hi Glen, I think the TuneHotels schedule is possibly newer than the one we have listed here – it should be OK to rely on that one.

    Thanks for the head’s up.

Eow – didn’t know you would check in yourself – thanks VERY much for posting this up – really, really helpful. I know Tune is currently in the process of putting in a new hotel by the LCCT, as well. If anyone hasn’t heard of Tune Hotel, let me just say it is a chain building upon the AirAsia concept – take a few minutes, google it, & check it out.

Would you have any idea, after arriving at the ferry terminal, whether it is better to walk over to the Warisan Square pickup point, or just grab a cab (or city bus???) & head to Likas Square? For this trip, I have more time than money, but if it works out about the same, I’d rather not backtrack –

Thanks much! Any reply here pops into my mailbox, & I have a few days still. Cheers!

Hey Glen, if you’re arriving at Jessleton Point, walking back to Warisan Square may almost take as long as walking to Likas Square (about 3km?).

I think from Jessleton Point it would be easier to just take a cab straight to 1Borneo – it should cost in region of RM20 – RM25.

If you REALLY want to take the bus then when you exit Jessleton Point turn left towards 1Borneo and about 1km down the road, there’s a bus stop.

Sooner or later a bus (not necessarily the 1Borneo Shuttle) will come along that will take you to 1Borneo.

i was thinking more along the lines of a short cab hop to Likas, then catch the bus the rest of the way. Maybe it will depend on if I can find others heading in the same direction – I’m not worried; just love the adventure of a place new to me :) Cheers again – and kudos on posting up the new schedule.

It’s just 1Borneo isn’t THAT far (you can see it in the distance from near Likas) and the difference between getting a cab to Likas and to 1Borneo wouldn’t be that much.

But adventures away! Let us know how it goes :)

    Dear Jude & others –

ummmm, yes, it is THAT far – you would never EVER want to walk from the downtown area to/from 1Borneo!!!

I arrived at the central bus/taxi area, walked over to Jesselton Point, got my ferry tickets for the return trip, and then back again to Warisan Square. I went upstairs, got my ticket, and then waited on the shuttle.

There are also public buses that will take you out that way, as well as at least one big city bus I saw running the route.

NO, Jude & others – you do NOT have to be staying out at any of the 1Borneo hotels. It is a free service to promote shopping & entertainment options out there. Just tell them you want to shop, look around, eat, see a movie, bowl, whatever. No charge; use it as much as you like. Just be aware you HAVE to go to the ticket counter in advance to get the freebie voucher each time, coming & going.

For the record – I had a wonderful trip, & will go back there again on R&R time. Stayed cheaply/nicely @ Tune; breakfast buffet splurge at Novotel, entertainment, shopping & GREAT food all over 1Borneo proper.

If I could just find a close beach, popular with the Uni students, I’d be almost set!

    Cheers!

If you plan on partying in downtown KK, plan on taking a taxi back to 1Borneo if you are staying out there.

If you have to leave early for the bus/ferry/airport, also don’t count on the shuttle – use your hotel service, or grab a taxi (there were always taxis out in front of the Novotel).

hey there. the schedule’s a bit vague to me. does any bus travel from Warisan Square to 1B at about six? n wat time’s the last bus frm 1B to Warisan Square? could u help me out a bit pls? thanks.

Hmmm – ok, from the looks of it, from the poster, if the schedule has NOT changed, there is a bus at Warisan at 5:45pm, and another one at 6:15pm (you didn’t say am or pm; there are NO 1B shuttles in that time of the am, because almost everything is closed!)

The last bus leaving 1B is at 9pm, and will arrive at Warisan about 9:45pm

Hope that helps you to understand the poster better!

Any idea if the hovercraft shuttle to/fro KK city center and the airport is in operation yet?

It’s not operational, because there is no hovercraft. There might never be one.
