  • Party Play (aka Party Play Lifestyle Cafe) were pioneers amongst the wave of themed restaurants that hit Kota Kinabalu some years back, proving that good food doesn’t have to be served in bland surroundings.

The first branch, Party Play Lintas, opened in October 2010 and almost instantly became a popular hang-out spot. Vibrant, interesting interiors combined with a varied menu and created an atmosphere where you want to linger.

It wasn’t long before they expanded into the adjacent lot, adding live music performances and event-hosting to their repertoire.

Riding on the back of Party Play Lintas’ success, in August 2011 Playground – a subsidiary of the brand – opened in City Mall.  In a similar vein and concept to Party Play, Playground offers a slightly different menu, but continues and expands on the novel presentation of food.

It does, however, struggle slightly to stamp the Party Play atmosphere on the mall surroundings, but is nevertheless a popular eatery at City Mall.

Just recently another branch of Party Play opened in Gaya Street, which is one of Kota Kinabalu’s hippest, and most historic, foodie haunts.

Smack in the middle of Kota Kinabalu’s tourist belt, surrounded by hotels and backpackers near Sugarbun Plaza, Party Play has opened in a spacious and inviting shop lot, which is sure to be their most successful venture yet.

The shot lot itself dates back to the 1950s, but after 2 months of renovation Party Play has managed to transform the historic space into a modern venue where there are sure to be much partying and plenty of playing.

The menu discards the magazine concept found at the other two branches, and combines the offerings from both into one, easy to navigate food fest.

Side-walk tables line the outside of the restaurant and – together with the large entrances – merge the charms of tree-lined Gaya street, with Party Play’s contemporary interior.

The reasonably priced food and drinks menu, plus the 4 draught beers on tap (Tiger, Carlsberg, Guinness, Killkenny), are sure to keep the seats at Party Play occupied.
