North Borneo Railway

Description

North Borneo Railway is a steam locamotive that traverses Borneo’s oldest and possibly only railway line.

Drawing its inspiration from the early 1900s, complete with carraiges refurbished and staff uniforms to fit the era, a journey on the North Borneo Railway is like a step back in to colonial Borneo.

The North Borneo Railway departs every Wednesday and Saturday from the station in Tanjung Aru on it’s 4 hour return journey to the town of Kinarut.

On the way the train meanders past the green vistas of paddy fields, through local villages and along the coast, while passengers are treated to breakfast and lunch, of course also in the style of yesteryear with Tiffin-style Asian and Continental cuisine.

The North Borneo Railway boasts 5 passenger carriages that can accommodate up to 180 passengers, built and operated to international safety standards.

Slow down the pace of travelling and experience a slice of history with the North Borneo Railway.

A great activity if you’re up for a passive experience of the Sabah rural countryside.
