Join Coalition Duchenne’s 5th annual Expedition Mt. Kinabalu to help raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a not-so-rare disease that most of us have probably never heard of.
It’s a fatal muscle wasting disease that affects 1 in 3,500 boys across the globe. First it robs them of their ability to walk, and then before long they start struggling to speak, and eating and breathing becomes difficult.
Eventually it will take their lives, often before they reach the age of 20. The cruelest part of the disease is that it leaves their minds, and dreams, unaffected.
Sabahan Cath Jayasuriya is a mother of 3 and her son, Dusty, has Duchenne.
She lives in California, but is returning to Sabah for the 5th Annual Expedition Mt Kinabalu, a quest to reach its summit and raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Having gone from 30 to 60 to 100 participants in pervious years, in 2015 Coalition Duchenne will once again take 100 climbers to join the cause by summiting Mt. Kinabalu.
You can be one of them
The 5th Expedition Mt. Kinabalu takes place on 7 – 9 August 2014.
All proceeds from the climb will fund urgent research to find treatments and a cure for all those affected by Duchenne.
What to expect from Expidition Mt. Kinabalu:
- 2 nights accommodation (1 in Kinabalu Park, 1 at Laban Rata on Mt. Kinabalu);
- All meals (6);
- Flag-off ceremony and lunch at a resort hotel in Kota Kinabalu;
- Return transport from KK to Mt. Kinabalu;
- All guide, insurance and climbing permits fees;
- A Closing Dinner at the hotel;
- Screening of the documentary “Dusty’s Trail: Summit of Borneo”;
- Limited Edition Coalition Duchenne t-shirt;
There is a limited variety of accommodation available in both the park and at Laban Rata, which means some climbers will be placed in shared hostel accommodation on the 1st night.
Upgraded lodging options are available on the 2nd night at Laban Rata. Rooms will be assigned at random, or you can secure one of the limited upgrades at an additional fee.
