Growball Cinemax in Kota Kinabalu is in Centre Point Shopping Centre and features 8 normal screens and a 9th, 3D screen.

With so many screens there is always something to watch at Growball, and the selection spans not just current American pop, but a choice of Indonesian / Malay and Hong Kong movies as well. Occasionally a Taiwanese, Korean or Thai movie can also be found.

Growball has some of the cheapest movie tickets and confectionery at any of the cinemas in Kota Kinabalu, making the total bill for a movie night quite affordable. Of course, the affordability means its popular with families with young children that seem to enjoy movies any time of the day and night.

The continued competition from more cinemas around Kota Kinabalu has made Growball up their game a little. Many of the cinemas were refitted with new seats, better acoustic insulation and improved sound systems. Pest control might need better attention though.

Growball Cinemas hasn’t discovered yet how useful (and lucrative) an app or even a working website can be, so keeping up with Growball movie ticket prices is a chore that, for SabahBah, is more effort than it’s worth.

However, as a rough guide, prices can be as cheap as RM6 on Mondays (for ladies), Tuesday (for gents) and Wednesday (for everyone), up to RM17 for a new release in 3D on the weekend. Obviously prices can change without notice (to us), so expect to pay more as the years go on.
