Teck Guan Cocoa Museum

Jalan Abaca, Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia

Description

The Teck Guan Cocoa Museum in Tawau is all about that loveable bean without which chocolate wouldn’t exist; cocoa.

It’s no accident that Tawau has a cocoa museum. It does, after all, have a booming cocoa industry and in the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum it proudly exhibits the progress of this industry over the years.

The only one of its kind in Malaysia, the cocoa museum opened it’s doors in 2004 and has since given visitors the opportunity to experience the industry up close, with a processing plant and manufacturing facility right on the museum’s grounds.

An illustrated history walks visitors through cocoa’s development in the world, but also specifically in Malaysia. A 20-minute video in the mini auditorium provides insight into the world of cocoa processing and production.

From the on site cocoa shop you are able to buy various chocolate products among which the interesting chocolate jam, as well as more familiar instant hot cocoa beverages.
