Description
Seri Selera Kampung Air at Sedco Square in Kota Kinabalu’s Kampong Air is a food-court that moves tons of seafood every night.
The central seating area is encircled by different seafood vendors, each jostling for the attention of arriving diners, eager to serve their particular specialities.
The sea of tables, each capable of seating 10 people, are large for a reason – the seafood restaurants at Seri Selera Kg Air serve en mass.
For this reason it’s more economical to go as a group, in which case you can expect a pretty elaborate seafood meal for somewhere around RM40 per person.
This price goes up if you add alcohol or subtract from 10 the number of diners.
Taking a local friend along will also go a long way towards a more enjoyable meal, as inevitably tourists will over-order, be talked into the unnecesarily expensive stuff, or miss out on what’s actually good.
Have a walk along the perimeter and meet the fresh seafood in the water tanks you’ll consume within minutes.
Unless you know better, try the soft-shell crab, butter prawns (or steamed for something a little healthier), garlic steamed scallops and the popular local vegetable called Sabah veggie.
And nothing beats siput tarik for its novelty value.
