Lahad Datu Airport (LDU) is a tiny domestic airport in one of Sabah’s far flung corners.

In spite of the Malaysia Airports website stating that Lahad Datu Airport can accommodation only 100k passengers, it served 131,054 passengers in 2011, which was already 20,000 more than in 2010.

With all the development taking place in Lahad Datu, these numbers are sure to increase and perhaps even an upgrade is on the cards of Lahad Datu Airport.

Located 1 km from Lahad Datu town, the airport is currently able to accommodate Fokker 50s and smaller commuter aircrafts.

Aside from the Palm Oil industry set to explode in Lahad Datu, it is also renowned for its Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, where these apes can be seen in what is left of their natural habitat.
